Tim Bitici Loves Using Fur in His Shoots

Tim Bitici is a famous New York based fashion designer, fashion editor and stylist. He loves using fur in unique ways. He says, “Fur is huge on all the runways for 2013”. He loves gray wolf, mink, fox and more exotic furs. He likes chic gray (silvery) and golden brown furs the most, but he says his “ultimate favorite” is oxblood. “It’s so rich and luxe, like Lindsey Wixson in Prada,” he adds. His shots show his creativity signature; putting fur vest over a leopard coat in one shot and mohair fur in another shot. “Every designer is influenced by history and by fashion from the ’20s, ’40s, ’60s, ’70s and films”, says Tim. He adds, “Designers find inspiration there and follow it through to their creations”.

Tim Bitici met Shannen on a shoot where he was the stylist. He says that he was excited and at the same time, scared when he got an offer for working with Shannen. After all, she is his inspiration to become a stylist. He said, “I can remember Shannen’s character Brenda Walsh has always been my favorite, not to mention somewhat of an inspiration for me to become a Stylist. I remember the episode that Brenda wore a white dress paired with black, rugged combat boots and I thought she was so cool and that look rocked. I was in Junior High School and right then and there I thought to myself that I wanted a career in Fashion.” When Tim walked on the set, all his worries were over. He found Shannen to be funny and friendly. From that instance, their friendship grew stronger and stronger.

He says,” never over-accessorize yourself and make sure that you don’t look like as if wearing a "hipster" Halloween costume.” The biggest mistake one can make while getting dressed is copying trends literally and not dressing according to the body type. He is a style icon and is often asked about fashion tips. He advises to wear what is comfortable, as comfort is not an enemy of style. His favorite fabric is cashmere.

He says that his approach to style is defined by a Stephen Meisel grunge story in the 90's for Vogue. It was styled by Grace Coddington and featured models Kristen McMenamy and Naomi Campbell. It was so long ago that Marc Jacobs was still a designer for Perry Ellis and his clothes were featured in this story as well. This particular shoot made Tim want to be a stylist more than ever.
